Hurricane Melissa:
Emergency Relief

How Global Teen Challenge is Responding to Hurricane Melissa

Global Teen Challenge is responding to the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa across the Caribbean, with particular concern for our centers in Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Our Regional Directors are in ongoing communication with local Teen Challenge leaders to assess conditions on the ground and identify emerging needs as recovery efforts continue.

In Jamaica, the storm has caused significant damage to several of our sustainability initiatives — projects that are vital to funding and operating the local program. Losses in these areas directly impact their ability to serve men and women seeking freedom and restoration.

In Cuba, communication remains limited following widespread damage from the hurricane’s direct hit. Our team is working through available channels to reconnect with leaders there and determine the most urgent needs for relief and rebuilding.

Our centers in the Bahamas are also being assessed for storm-related damage as part of our broader regional response.

Global Teen Challenge is mobilizing support to address structural repairs, provide food and medical supplies, solve transportation challenges, and rebuild damaged sustainability initiatives. These efforts will ensure our local programs are able to provide hope, stability, and care to those they serve in their communities.

As our teams remain in close contact with program directors across the affected nations, we continue to evaluate both the immediate and long-term needs to guide our response and direct resources where they are needed most.

Thank you for standing with us during this time. Your prayers and financial support continue to enable us to pur hope within reach of those who need it most.

Jamaica

In Jamaica, our students and team members are safe, but the impact on sustainability initiatives has been catastrophic. Rebuilding these projects is critical, as they provide the ongoing operational funds that keep the center running and allow it to serve the community year-round. Flooded roads and transportation challenges have also made it difficult to deliver essential supplies, including food and clean water, underscoring the urgent need for continued assistance as recovery efforts move forward.

Cuba

In Cuba, the impact of Hurricane Melissa has been severe. Communication lines remain down across much of the island, making it difficult to assess the full extent of the damage. Local leaders are working diligently to reestablish contact and gather updates from each center. Early reports indicate widespread devastation, with infrastructure and community resources heavily affected. As soon as communication is restored, we will coordinate with our teams to identify the most urgent needs and begin providing targeted support to aid recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The Bahamas

In The Bahamas, our team is in active communication with local Teen Challenge leaders as we continue to assess the situation. While the full extent of the damage is still being evaluated, early reports indicate flooding and property damage in several areas. Our priority is to determine immediate needs, provide support to affected staff and students, and ensure programs can continue operating safely as recovery efforts progress.
